As you dig in to what the meaning of the songs may be, you are often sent off in directions you hadn't anticipated before staring. That kind of purpose driven, intense reading can only expand your accumulated knowledge. It also forces you to be a better writer.

I like the description of this feature as an "educated personal opinion."

DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-75408288918378301732017-03-09T15:37:53.975-08:002017-03-09T15:37:53.975-08:00- - - - -

To answer your question I wrote all of this - one song per day - over a two week period leading up to the publication here. So - after the last song was released.

That's cool you went to the San Diego show. I saw a set list taken from that night and there wasn't any of the new songs on it at all. It showed a 15 song "greatest hits" list from all of their past albums.

I hope they DO tour this year. At the very least play a New York show. I hope to see you there!DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-27714666936380481132017-01-23T12:48:25.115-08:002017-01-23T12:48:25.115-08:00This was a good read, Dave! Very in-depth, not only within each song's identity, but within The Raveonettes's mythology & history throughout their career (and that only a true fan & Raveonettes' connosiour could get into). I wonder, did this review built through the year as each song was released? Or did you write it once "Pendejo" was issued? I ask because personally I felt like since there was only one song a month, I would super get into it trying to "read" within its lines as much as possible, and then would look back at what was already released and try to see it within that context. At the end after "Pendejo" was out, I would listen to the whole built "album" while also listening back to other Raveonettes recordings, and gotta say, I think the final album is just brilliant, strong, and dare say "mature" but not in an "old" way, but in that you can see how well Sune as a musician/writter, and both Sharin & Sune as a duo, have grown as a well-crafted wine that through time has all this nice aromas and tones that are so delicious. On the other hand, many songs fell very futuristic to me, as-in if you imagine the "future" with flying cars and beautiful modern/crafted cities ala "Bladerunner" movie when it came out back in the 80's. Can't wait for when the LP comes out!!! :D

Now, I'm sad to report that while the San Diego show was FREAKING AWESOME, the Raves did not play the entire new album. While there were some of the new songs, Sune & Sharin went into some of their great other albums for the set list, specially "Whip It On", and don't get me wrong, I L O V E D every minute of it, but if they had given us a back-to-back of the new songs I would have been an equal happy-camper as well. Which means, can't wait for the new tour!!! While at the show I hanged out with two Danish gentlemen I met there who have followed the Raveonettes since the start (and who have seen their shows throughout the world!), and we were all in-agreement that the new album stands within their bests.

Thank you for writing this Dave! Maybe I'll see you in one of the shows of the new tour :)

(This is Lucia, btw)
Lucia M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09726601457034226856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-48611532985426251872017-01-23T09:49:05.638-08:002017-01-23T09:49:05.638-08:00Coming from another hard working wordsmith such as...Coming from another hard working wordsmith such as yourself, Miranda - I take that as high praise indeed.

Thanks Jenna #JENS!

I KNOW you know how great this band is.

And to receive approval from someone who has been so influential in not only the development of The Raveonettes, but innovation worldwide (currently harnessing Cyborg powers) is a most satisfying achievement.DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-86184780093172243292017-01-23T08:38:39.763-08:002017-01-23T08:38:39.763-08:00Miranda Lukeman wrote:

The early consensus from many (including myself) is that one is the favorite. It certainly has a lot of the elements you mention there (as well as the one's I referenced in the review) going on – but is still such a uniquely Sune Rose Wagner composition! Especially the lyrics. Just like the Reid bothers you refer to - I can't imagine anyone else writing lyrics like the way Sune (and William and Jim) do. It's such a personal, detail specific style. Always fascinating.DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-24084379892171440042017-01-20T15:52:19.079-08:002017-01-20T15:52:19.079-08:00Rob Sacher wrote:
