I agree with you that more and more bands are taking the steps to make sure that at least *something* of theirs is available in vinyl. If you go into the Rough Trade store in Brooklyn, not only are there tons of vinyl albums - but they have numerous turntable options for purchase. As far as guitars go - Baby Shakes are a *two* Rickenbacker band - Claudia's bass and Judy's guitar. They certainly look good in pictures!DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-2585168686149572682017-07-12T13:35:44.685-07:002017-07-12T13:35:44.685-07:00I read the interview of Baby Shakes and it seemed ...I read the interview of Baby Shakes and it seemed to me that making recordings available in the vinyl format isn't as much of a vanity project as previously thought. It may be, in fact, necessary. At this point in time, it seems pretty pervasive in the industry- almost to a point that fans EXPECT to be able to acquire a band's output on vinyl. I also admire that Rickenbacker bass and that reverse lighting photo, in addition to the answer they gave that they "stick to the classics; (matching) denim and leather."ViewFromSpookysDoghousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18338262684051252873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-91960280431293833612017-07-09T18:54:40.002-07:002017-07-09T18:54:40.002-07:00Pleased to see the high powered executive at High ...Pleased to see the high powered executive at High Voltage PR voicing their approval. A number of clubs have opened there recently - Todd P's Trans-Pecos a few years ago - plus more recent additions the Knockdown Center and The Footlight. Additionally there is a very cool like-minded Art Gallery called Superchief - which is right around the corner from all that action. So - if I were looking for a place to kick-start my NY experience - it would be there.DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-11448574786693182362017-07-03T16:36:45.824-07:002017-07-03T16:36:45.824-07:00Rob Sacher wrote:

Orange Park played just about every CMJ and New Year's Eve at Luna. The drummer, Jay Moore, worked for Luna Lounge and our label, LunaSea Records. He uploaded the concert calendar every week and helped send out press releases, etc. He also helped upload music to our internet radio station which I believe was one of the first indie rock radio stations on line. We really do have a lot of history.

Even if I were able to come back to NYC and live there, the problems involved with trying to open a small club there now seem insurmountable and the city's character has changed so much since the 1980s and 90s when I enjoyed it so much. Walking around in the East Village or the Lower East Side does not feel very enjoyable to me and frankly I am tired of chasing one neighborhood after another trying to outrun gentrification and exhaustive rents. I think about it a lot.

Mirrorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01694120266124132509noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-71977333098447609502017-07-03T11:22:45.119-07:002017-07-03T11:22:45.119-07:00I hadn't realized you also knew the guys in De...I hadn't realized you also knew the guys in Dead Stars too, Rob. But it makes sense because Jeff Moore had some good memories of Jody when I told him I had just seen him. And Lou Probes (always by Jody's side it seems) was also chatting excitedly about the guys in Dead Stars.

As a former New York City club owner who has helped nurture so much of this scene, Rob - your thoughtful commentary here is always appreciated.DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-70080434066635187142017-07-03T09:27:14.451-07:002017-07-03T09:27:14.451-07:00Rob Sacher wrote:

It's really nice to see writing about them and it makes me wish that I could somehow be there and be able to present them in a place like the original Luna Lounge. And, Jody!. My dear friend, Jody. I saw Fountains very last show which happened to be here in Tampa. I got to spend three or four days with Jody down here back then. That was now a few years ago. That place called Poor Cow in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo sound like a very cool place!

As for Northside - it's fast become one of my very favorite annual events to look forward to now. What with CMJ disappearing last year, and other formerly interesting yearly showcases apparently fizzling out (the Siren Fest/4Knots Fest) - Northside seems to have taken over in a big way.

It was great to catch these carefully selected shows this time.DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-29072061268572283132017-07-02T17:55:49.465-07:002017-07-02T17:55:49.465-07:00loved the interview with Baby Shakes here! it'...loved the interview with Baby Shakes here! it's pretty cool to read about how new york bands go over in places like japan. it seems like they really do well there!

congrats on writing that cover feature on them.

i always look forward to the northside coverage this site provides, and this years' focuses on a lot of different bands. some new to me (like amber arcades, jody porter and kristin kontrol) and others familiar with from reading prior features on them here (like the two dead bands, ds and dle).

the descriptions of the bands and their music here always makes me excited to hear more from them!

Mistyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01013524585031078331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-33530852157166598522017-06-29T11:45:04.662-07:002017-06-29T11:45:04.662-07:00Ah - minutia to search for the next time I watch t...Ah - minutia to search for the next time I watch that film, Jody!

- - -

Great to see my two fave "Dead" bands - Dead Stars and Dead Leaf Echo (yes, I like them better than both the Dead Boys and the Grateful Dead) are down with their featured inclusion here.

Ditto for music friends @IHeartNoise, @petridisch, @lirpa413 and Noise Love!
DaveCromwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626814069731367862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292741862763113147.post-59386048743286867222017-06-29T10:41:53.415-07:002017-06-29T10:41:53.415-07:00Jody Porter wrote:
